The Youth Enquiry Service Brixham Ltd. is based at The Edge, in Brixham, the smallest of three towns that make up the coastal tourist resort of Torbay. Brixham is a small fishing port in a beautiful location but because of its geographical position and areas of deprivation, it has underlying problems which need creative initiatives in order to help its community to thrive.

YES. has always responded to the needs of the local  people and looks at ways to break down barriers and build bridges so that they realise their valued roles in their community.

YES. encourages people to take a participative and where appropriate a leadership role in decision making, building up transferable skills that they can take into education, training and employment.

YES. believes in recognising that each individual person is of equal value irrespective of background, colour, background, status, sexual orientation, ethnicity and ability.

YES. offers a free and confidential service to people of all ages, information & advice, volunteering opportunities life skill workshops, gardening on our community allotment, music workshops, yoga workshops, a role playing club, arts and crafts, shower facilities and clothes washing facilities, chill out spaces and a cafe area all in a welcoming and safe environment.

Other groups & clubs can hire room space when available, at competitive rates.

Our Mission Statement

Our Mission is to create a welcoming and supportive environment where people of all ages and backgrounds can come together to create opportunities.

Our Vision is for a vibrant Brixham where everyone feels valued, connected and able to live a fulfilled life.

Y.E.S. A Potted History

Brixham YES was established in 1996 as part of a Devon based service for Young People. It was the only one in Torbay. It is no longer affiliated to that service and has become a Charitable Company limited by guarantee. YES has grown from small beginnings, starting in a garage behind what was then Brixham Post Office on New Road. The Post Office moved and the building was sold.

YES then moved to the 3rd floor of a bigger building in Fore Street. It was far from ideal however and we looked for other premises. In 2000 we moved into part of the Town Hall and were there for ten years. During that time, YES became more than an information and support service and was more pro active, empowering young people. A Young Volunteers programme enabled them to make a positive difference in their community. With adult support, they organised an annual Free Fun Day and Christmas Grotto for all the children in the town. Tea Dances for the elderly, held in the adjoining Scala Hall were also organised by the group.

In 2010 we had to look for other premises when it seemed likely that part of the building was to be demolished for road widening. The Edge, our present home was purchased by kind benefactors who have allowed us to rent the building from them.
